  3. I was talking last night to @htprankster and he said wh1te was going to organise a tournament, but has recently retired. I thought it would be fun, and good exposure for the race mode of the game. Not sure how to do it though so list your ideas below! New maps would be ideal, perhaps released a week before the competition for people to practise, then I an event with a timelimit and perhaps an attempt limit too. More maps would be ideal of course but a new map takes time to lovingly craft, right?!
  4. THIS IS A BIT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL CUP - Its called DoubleCup because after the groupstages, two parallel brackets will be run - one for the top2 from each group, and one for the bottom 2 from each group. This way, even players that have no chance of winning the Procup, do have a chance to win the Funcup! This is likely to be challenging from an organisational point of view, so any assistance would be welcome! There are some mappool changes from last week - 421 replaces Simplicity (thcdm13). 5. As previously mentioned, with the intention of making it a regular series, I'm pleased to announce the first of hopefully many Reflex Instacups. The idea is simple, to run regular relatively small scale tournaments over the course of one evening with short lead in times. Signups will generally open 24hours before the cup is due to start. Now to the details of the tournament! Rama graciously let me copy the rules and regulations that he used during his EU Duel cup. They seemed to cover everything and were well received so thanks again to Rama for that. 6. I've noticed that there is a relative lack of 1v1 cups on the european scene, despite having the biggest player base. I am considering starting a cup series up - but with a twist. Rather than having big monthly cups, or whatever, the idea would be to run small, regular (almost daily) tournaments with 16 players (32 at the weekends?) etc over the course of a couple of hours in the evenings. Anyway, feedback, suggestions and criticism are welcome.
  7. Check it out here: https://secure.twitch.tv/fractaljaguar/v/80296676 Check out the final, deciding game in the final between @Kyto & @HAL_9000 here. Hooray for timestamps. https://secure.twitch.tv/fractaljaguar/v/80296676?t=03h26m00s Videos on my youtube channel already but currently unlisted. Will set to public later, I don't think any players will mind the video being available so I might just do that now. I was quite tired by the final game, and my casting style isn't extroverted, but hey, deal with it There were a few particularly nice shots in the game, two instances with a rocket or IC attack pushing a player off the red armour. I really enjoyed those. If you can give me timestamps for 1) start of games and 2) any highlights, I'd really appreciate it.

  11. Hello! I know, I know, this may be a little of a remote place to start a tournament for a fairly small game like this, but would anyone be up for a tournament hosted some place in africa? The country depends on how many people there are there. I'm not expecting much in numbers to be up for it, but hey, have a shout out to see who else is in this barren zone ^^

  16. Welcome to the Reflex Garbage Cup! Reflex's very own beginner's tournament. This week we learned that, if we stick together, good things will always follow! IRC = #garbage on QuakeNet Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 http://www.twitch.tv/mtargetproduction http://www.twitch.tv/blasdfa/b/645824505 http://www.twitch.tv/griffulz http://www.twitch.tv/m/839885 http://www.twitch.tv/m/839887 We have finished the Round Robin portion of the tourney! Week 6 Loser's Bracket Lowest Ranked 4 3 will play Bo3, winners from those will play Bo5 Gains title "Treasurer of Trash" Winner's Bracket Top Ranked 4 will play Bo3, winners from those will play Bo5 Gains title "Compost Commander" Week 7 FFA = Final Redemption 3 rounds of FFA! All players receive 1 point per kill. This affects final rank. (Not really, since the bracket is already finished. But it'll be fun, I think!) Overall winner receives title "Lord of the Landfill" Stalast has suggested getting rid of the final, where the winner from the Winner's and Loser's brackets go head to head to claim final victory. While I do think there is value in this system, Stalast's comments have made me realize that, for this particular tourney, it may just be better to run the final segment of the tournament like this: I would like to leave the Final (giving Loser's bracket a chance to reclaim victory) in future Garbage Cups, especially those that have more competitors and thus wider brackets. But as long as no one has any major objections, we will be following the second model. Doing it this way will afford us a little extra time, and spare those of us in the bottom 3 a hefty plate of public embarrassment. Please post any suggestions or comments to this thread. The coming week will host the finals of the Garbage Cup! Thanks to everyone for participating, and stay tuned for more!
  17. Overdrive 1v1 Tournament [EU] Recently Reflex received an new map known as Overdrive or more commonly f14p1 created by Ivor 'F14m3z' Weatherill. Largely inspired by cpm24 it offers an unique layout and exhibits the games new industrial visual style. The map features one mega health, one red armour and two yellow armours however it differs greatly from many original Reflex maps in the way that it plays. In order to thoroughly test the map and determine its suitability for competitive play I'm hosting this tournament and inviting a number of talented European players to compete. 18. Intro: The announcement of the duel map competition, has led me to study the “top” maps in Reflex. Including various articles on Q3A level design. Pat Howard the author of maps such as Goldleaf, Q and his recently released Trespass. Has done a very interesting article on the connectivity system of some maps. http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php?40787-Connectivity-Systems Analysis: It got me thinking: What is the general style of connectivity system in Reflex? The most played map on f3allready.com made by community members is DP5 by def, followed by DP4 of the same author. DP4 & DP5 Both have a top-level loop and one branch on the bottom. DP4 is still quite different to DP5. When you play DP4, you are getting into a lot more “forced transitions” as Pat describes it. Where as in DP5 you are freer to move around. Could this be why DP5 has higher ranking and used more in competitions than DP4? Let us look at some other tournament maps. The map ranked after DP4 is thct7. A map that’s thought to be one of the “best”, by the community, and appear in almost every tournament. Looking at the connectivity system it has a loop on the macro (lower level), which you can run comfortably. The high level consist of two loops with a branch between them (8 shaped). (The eight shaped loop appears in tehace’ other maps as well. Being most obvious in thcdm13 -- which is a map that receives a lot of playtime as well). Conclusion: DP5, THCT7 and THCDM13, are the most picked maps in tournaments, and their layout style are all quite similar. They also have almost the same world size (thcdm13 not so much though). Discussion: People seem to prefer small looped (circular), levels more than branched ones. How could this be? In Q3A / QL, people seem to play many branched maps. Pat says that “...heavily branched layout provides a lot of interesting opportunities for map control” when he analyzed Lost World. Why do we not see these types of maps being played/made in Reflex? Is Reflex not fit for branched layouts? Thoughts/insight? (If any information is wrong, please don't bash me) More by Pat Howard: Fundamentals of Gameplay I & II

I have to thank everyone that helped me out over the past month weather you helped me with organizing the CTF Showmatch, made graphics for the stream, helped run the duel tournament, tuned into the streams we had, or played in the games. Thank you very much. It was a real honor and I hope myself and BOXR have more announcements for you guys regarding future events we're working on. I've compiled a demopack of all the replays recorded on our official servers. 21. I was thinking about ways to make playing duel PUBs more interesting and had this idea. You and 8 other players are matched up in a bracket. The first 4 games start at the same time so as soon as they are completed it moves on to the second round of 2 games. Then the final round. Making it only a up-to 30-40 minute commitment. You can also have a game for third place that happens during the final match. Example:
