Deep Dark Fantasy - TDM / FFA

Here is some fancy layout for a medium-large (gothic?) styled TDM / FFA map. I'm probably not going to finish this so I'm throwing it here. Lighting is done pretty poorly and might even cause performance issues. Workshop link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=781888146 P.S. Hate working with meshes and it killed the motivation. Had fun up to this point though.

    Why do you play Reflex?

I believe the devs announced in the roadmap that soon there will be and easyier way to check your replays with your replays automatically being recorded and some more sweet jazz

    Why do you play Reflex?

Watching replays is easy! Setting up fancy camera angles etc. is trickier right now, but for the purpose of just reviewing a demo for analysis, you've literally just got to play it: get a demo file! Play on duel servers that let you download them via a website (my 'Jaguar/Laerad' servers record replays, as do a few others, but there is no automaticly updated webpage. But you can ask the server admin! Put the .rep replay file in the /replays folder in the game directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Reflex is the default path I think). Fire up Reflex, hit the tilde key to bring down the console (that's the key under 'Esc' and to the left of '1'). Type 'play <filename>' and hit Enter, where <filename> is the name of the replay without the .rep extension You'll need to bind some keys but the commands you'll probably need are re_speed 0 - to pause the play (e.g. 'bind re numpad0 re_speed 0'). re_speed 1 - to play! re_set_player_attached_to <playername> - changes the POV. You have to type the player's name precisely. If you intend to switch between the two players' POVs rapidly, you can bind the two players to two keys. you can easily rewind and fast forward by holding down the shift key and moving the mouse left and right. This is the best way of timeskipping at the moment, even though it is quite slow for longer chunks of time - but it is ideal for rewinding multiple times, to watch a segment of play over and over. That's about it? Give it a go, ask questions if you get stuck

    Why do you play Reflex?

I have demo's in "E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\reflexfps\replays", *Edit: -or at least i think they are demo's, but I've never tried playing them. When I try to play them, it seems the latest onces were made using an older version of reflex. -Also, I don't see any recent 'demo's' (or whatever they are). The latest have a timestamp of 29/9/2016.

    Why do you play Reflex?

Reflex is great because it's fast and strategic. It's a lot of fun to pick up weapons and hit hard on your enemy after flying up some stairs. I like that most maps have interessting architecture and extravagant layouts with teleporters and jumppads.. Each gamemode has it's own unwritten objectives (duel: cycle all the items so that there is enaugh time between their seperate respawns, FFA: move fast, get Rocketlauncher, get armor, always get Carnage.. etc.) It's cool but at the same time for me it's also the only weakness of this game, because it can get confusing and frustrating. It requires so much concentration for decisionmaking while playing and forces you to invest a lot of time into demo analysis if you want to improve. It's not easy and maybe not for everyone. I still don't know how to watch my replays.. I really hope there will soon be a compfortable and userfriendly way to watch demos in game.

    [lolo_race1] Encounter the Monolith

Hey all, I've been stuck at home with a cold for past few days and decided to make a race map. This is my first map: Encounter the Monolith. It is inspired most obviously by Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey but also by Paul Verhoeven's Total Recall (specifically, the alien structures and ruins depicted at various parts in the film). By design, it has a few shortcuts and one especially large shortcut that may not be possible at all. I see that as a challenge to the likes of @slobo^- and night. =) My goal was to make the map almost completely walk-able (no huge speed or trick jumps necessary) until the very end but also allow for enough freedom and possibility to make really fast times that require lots of skill to achieve. In other words, I want it to be a map where players of all skill levels can play it and be challenged by it. But, most importantly, to make it really fun to play even if you've completely conquered all the routes on the map! Thanks to all the help from various people who've visited my server in the past couple days to provide feedback but especially: @Claymation, @slobo^-, and night. UPDATE #1 (October 15, 2016): Changed some elements of the "secret" route. Not sure if I'll end up keeping the secret route but I'm more OK with the way the route works now. Added some additional structural features. Some areas were pretty bland. The map is still largely bland but a little less so now. =) Fixed a whole bunch of little issues with brushes (bad spacing, sizes, etc.). Added a touch of color w/ grass and weed meshes in reasonable places. I plan to eventually do some more work on the visuals (but need to ruminate a bit on how to proceed). Added "end" camera.

Ok it appears i need to chime in. The judges chosen are respected and impartial. Matches were played over multiple sessions, i hosted some so i have some of those demos still i believe. All of the judges votes were done independently and i collated them, the devs had no bias in weighting towards the tallies. The top 3 were a fair margin ahead of the others that made the top 10. I apologise for the mess up regarding public voting, it was something we originally weren't going to do at all, then we were... then we had real life issues going on that needed to delay for further proper judging and we were going to update the announcement to remove the bite about public voting and well it slipped through. Things happen. I'm sorry. If we do one again there's plenty we've learned from to do it more smoothly. I have some very rough notes i took down so i could remember and make a cheat sheet for myself later on. I'll take the time to go through them and elaborate on them and the criteria i personally used to assess. I'll also post the top 10. I'd also like to personally thank everyone for their submissions and hard work it was really great to see.

    Why do you play Reflex?

I like fast stuff. I stay away from strategy games because they tend to be slow and require little executional skill. Games like Reflex require a good amount of strategy no doubt, but it's also fast paced, which I like. I recall playing a free browser game called Uberstrike, which might be considered an afps game, and if it is it was my first, but I was never quite good at it. Then a friend wanted me to play QL with him (back when it was on browsers for free, probably around 2014-2015ish), and I loved it. Recently I started playing QL more consistently, and that lead to me buying Reflex (another friend told me about it, he bought it around the time when gun models were the same or something). After watching defrag and frag movies with beautiful movement, I really wanted to play PQL more in QL, but unfortunately those servers are rarely active. This pushed me to buy Reflex. Main reason I didn't buy it sooner is due to the small playerbase, which is a shame the game really deserves traction, even in early access.

    HUD Feedback Thread!

hey it's a constant work in progress so don't be surprised if stuff isn't working but here's a link www.maimbot.com/ui.7z hud now looks something like this timers are obviously a wip, but they auto-sort based on most upcoming spawn and differentiate armors by 1 and 2 (you'll still have to remember which one is 1 and which one is 2, working on a 'label' system next) weaponrack removes axe, burst, and steak weapons thanks to qualx + apheleon
