  1. Seeing the capsule shape finally explains why rockets do not seem to hit home. Splash damage is/seems greatly reduced by it, since the floor is mostly left empty by this hit model.

    [0.39.0] Game crashing on startup

I have no custom LUA scripts and replaced my only lightly edited custom configuration file for a standard one. It seems that has not been the issue. Also note that I tried reinstalling the game and verified the game cache.

    [0.39.0] Game crashing on startup

Manually deleting the contents of the game folder and then verifying the game cache, redownloading the game files that way, finally allows me to start the game normally. Whether that is an actual workaround or just something that happened to work this time I do not know. However, starting a map/server locally often results in simply returning to the 'Press escape to continue' menu. This update seems to have its issues.

    [0.39.0] Game crashing on startup

After the very promising update, I cannot get Reflex to boot up again. I see the loading screen for a couple of seconds and then Reflex crashes to desktop. I have tried the following things: - Verify game cache - Delete then reinstall the full game - Remove personalised configuration file It appears the problem is identical to the issue in this thread. I will not share a crash report due to the somewhat detailed nature of the information in it.

    Map Editor Guide

Do you guys have any ideas how to replace doors? Adding zigzag hallways changes the flow of the map too much. Adding a door effect without a clipping entity looks broken and does not change the gameplay correctly (since shooting through is still possible). The closest thing I can come up with is using two teleports either side of the wall, but that does not quite do the job either. Are there any objects I can script or alter to fit my needs?

    Map Editor Guide

A couple of questions I hope you can help me with :) 1) First of all, what are the reflecting orbs for? They seem to be copiously spread throughout most levels, but I cannot figure out the change it makes. 2)Secondly, is it possible to have moving doors or blocks? Those are rather useful to obscure a player's vision in certain areas. The maps I am rebuilding depend on it in certain areas, so I hope there is some way of building or improvising them. 3) Is it possible to make blocks that look solid like normal ones, but do not clip, just like effects? 4) Finally, are there no ammo packs at all? Are these not in yet, or have they intentionally been left out?

    Bots?

This is not necessarily true. It only works that way if you use relatively simple, old school bots like those of Quake 3. If you design a proper modern AI system, however, bots are able to deal with changes and updates themselves, especially if they have learning capabilities. They will adapt appropriately, or at least enough not to become broken. Maybe even look at real player movements to learn tricks. Only if you make huge changes, the chances of bots not being able to adapt increase, but that would mean changing the game way beyond what it is today. Someone built better bots for Quake 3 and those are much more capable of adapting to different circumstances than the original ones, and also mimic player behaviour like dodging a lot more. I would absolutely love the addition of bots. Not only does it allow you to fool around without bothering anyone, it also makes play testing new levels possible. As it stands, it is almost impossible to properly test the flow and gameplay of a map in combat without releasing it to the public. There is only so much bots can tell you, but you can at least refine it to a point where the map is worth bothering real humans for. The map editor allows for really easy iterations right now, but not being able to test actual combat limits development to a certain point.

    Map Editor Guide

I seemed to be missing a couple of items/textures/models, but I found that is just a case of selecting the right category (for instance, effect). No problem there

    Map Editor Guide

Ah, thanks. That was not in the Youtube video of the topic start. Other than that, the editor looks really easy. Not quite the same as GTKRadiant Now I just need to figure out why most of the textures are missing and I am good to go. It would be wonderful to recreate some of my never fully released Q3 maps.

    Map Editor Guide

I may very well be an idiot, but I cannot seem to enter the map editor. Pressing normal zero does nothing. Pressing keypad zero does nothing. Even after explicitly remapping the normal zero to toggle the editor, nothing happens. I just continue to shoot the weapons normally. Mapping the editor to another key and using that does not help either. What am I overlooking?
