  2. Should Reflex Arena be free?

    Short answer: yes. Longer one: We don't know how much income Reflex generates. If it still generates enough income to finance development, it's a matter how much more development you want/need before going for bigger masses via f2p. As in: if you barely make money from it anyway, why not go f2p and hope to get a bigger player base and generate revenue through cosmetics. At this point, I would say no. What i'd actually prefer is this: - f2p version with very limited features: just duel + 1 team-mode matchmaking - no server browser or other modes - cosmetics (and Reflex would need a different system + way more cosmetics) (buy full game for other features n shit) Another thing about cosmetics: in my opinion, this art style highly limits Reflex options with cosmetics, due to the fact there are no textures and therefore no simple skins.

  4. Netcode is good -> yes. Map editor is good? Yes and No. Technically...yes, but in reality those 700+ on the WS you are mentioning are pointless and a big reason WHY there are so many utterly useless maps is because of how accessible the editor is. Is it good? What's the networth here? LUA functionality ... personally i think a highly (!!) customizable UI is highly overrated and the whole LUA stuff has brought in issues which shouldn't even be there and the truly useful widgets ... let's just say: they should be native in the game anyways. The engine is great...and yes it has good visibility. Visibility that comes with a trade-off ...which is the art-style... which limits the games customizability. I think we can both agree that QC is miles ahead in that regard, but ofc Bethesda/ID has way more resources to work with. Reflex does have a good foundation .... but it also comes with a questionable execution and no marketing budget, as it seems. The real question is: do we think Reflex can get bigger, just by doing gameplay changes? I'd honestly say... no. At least not by an amount worth mentioning. PERSONALLY.... i'd totally vote +1 for a duel+team-mode only f2p version of Reflex. F2P often sounds like the last resort of a "failed" indie-game... but let's be honest: it's not far away*. Regards *i'm not saying Reflex failed.... but if it wants to grow larger, it failed. If 100 concurrent players and a nearly dead competitive scene is considered a success, fine.

  6. Don't think i completely agree here. New maps? Uhm... sure. AS LONG AS THEY ARE GOOD. Rama made some good points. New maps for the sake of adding new maps is stupid, as proven by 421 and Sanctum. Adding new maps to "even out the field" seems odd to me as well. I'd much rather give the people putting in hours after hours an edge rather then "randomizing" results just for the sake of it and so people can feel good about themselves. In the end getting good in something requires dedication. Don't take that away from people. And also....ideally thanks to MM it shouldn't matter how much experience someone has on a map. In the end one factor that's somewhat "big" in a competitive activity is: consistency. Don't take that way. It's not like new maps will bring in more players anyways. Regards (tbh i think the only people that care about new maps are veterans....)

    Having new maps for the sake of new maps is barely a good thing. Creating an competitive environment should be about reducing randomness as much as possible. Using maps that are well played instead of forcing weird new maps does that. Of course you then have the problem of: when there's a good new map.... will it ever get into the competitive pool? IMO competitive matchmaking = proven, good/solid maps casual matchmaking = random maps, if you ask me even with a lot more maps

    I hope we get a 5-map-pool for competitive duel soon. I'm tired of this Sanctum/421/Static Discharge votes..... or whatever other awkward combination comes up at times.

    Rockets underpowered? I aren't think that. Maybe if your whole gameplay relies on RL and you realize you can't play like this....yeah.
  11. I think there's a good reason upcoming new AFPS games like QC and Diabotical are creating new team-modes .... because they know the current ones are bad.

    So..i'm at home now. So i'll explain a bit more, sorry if there was a misunderstanding and i wasn't clear enough. So basically: we have an option that let's us OPT-IN to lobby servers, not OPT-OUT ( "will place you in a lobby server bla bla bla" ). Basically this option is for people that DON'T want to be on a server while searching, because of ingame-sounds etc. . Many people just want to alt-tab and do other stuff while searching. So far, ok? Now: why would you FORCE those players into an environment they didn't wanna be in to begin with by opting-out of the lobby-system? Doesn't make sense. Auto-queuing is fine i guess, although it could lead to awkward situations where you actually didn't want to queue straight away and you have to decline a match that has been found to quick (what a glorious situation that'd be, right? one day...). But i doubt this would happen often, as most people would just disconnect while end-scoreboard. So what if you kick people from servers after a duel, that haven't opt-in to the lobby-system? This would most likely result in 1 player staying at the server all by himself. Take from that what you want. Real question would be: how many people actually use the lobby system since the update? To sum up: auto-queuing -> alrighty. Force me to stay on server in order to auto-queue -> nope. Ofc you'd say "then disconnect and re-queue" .... ofc i could, but that's bad UX and if something should be avoided.... what if not bad UX.

    That's not my argument for the whole lobby server, but shooters. He said the intention was so people can chat after a game etc. Edit: if you'd have actually read my post you'd also realize i don't ( !! ) want to stay on a server after a match. ( you can roll your eyes all you want, doesn't make me wrong. )

    Play duel > finish match > Wanna chat > queue pops up > decline cuz you wanna chat = queue popped for nothing/accept = intention of people fooling around after a duel is pointless. Also: I don't want to join a lobby server when queuing so why would i wanna stay on a server for queueing after a match instead of the menu, which I did the first time as well? Auto queue... OK... But don't force me to stay on a server to queue. It's horrible ux and I'm wondering why I even have to discuss this. Arguing about 2 clicks? Works the other way around as well. What's so hard about re-queuing? There's a reason all good mm systems work really similar when it comes to ux. Dunno why indie developers always have to go full hipster on this tbh. No offense.

    It's just 2 clicks .. but.. proper UX would spare me the 2 clicks :D. and it actively works against the intention of having players chat etc. after a match, because you can get matched really quickly sometimes. So yeah.... auto-queueing seems odd at this point.

    Imo writing "disconnect" in the console shouldn't remove you from the queue. Also: please no auto-re-queue when a match ends.

  24. Lobby System or not?

    Hello, what kinda matchmaking system do you prefer? A more classic one as we see in CSGO/SC2/DOTA/LoL or a lobby system as we have in Shootmania/Reflex? Explanations: Classic: you opt-in and simply wait, can't play while queuing rocket-league-like: you opt-in and are free to do whatever you want Personally i think a rocket-league-like system would be the best as it allows you to do whatever you want.
